About ShowUp Labs
There is an easy way to judge anyone selling AI visibility, and it takes one question: what is your own score, and when did you measure it? Ours is published every day, and you can check it right now.
What we actually do
Most companies in this category sell measurement: a subscription that asks AI engines a set of questions on a schedule and draws you a chart. That is useful, and it is not the job. A monitoring subscription tells you every month that you are still not being recommended, in the same way that owning a set of scales has never made anyone lighter.
We do three things, on three very different clocks. A technical pass on crawler access, rendering, schema and identity, which takes days. A content pass restructuring pages to answer the questions buyers actually ask, which takes weeks. And off-site work earning mentions on the third-party pages engines already cite, which carries roughly 85% of the weight and takes months. Any proposal that does not separate those three is hiding the slow one.
Experience, in the only form that counts here
This category is about eighteen months old. There are no qualifications in it, no established benchmarks, and nobody has a track record longer than the category itself. So rather than claim expertise, here is the record.
- We ran our own audit on ourselves and scored zero. The first time we ran this audit on our own site it scored 0 out of 100, because bot protection nobody had consciously switched on was returning 403 to every AI crawler. We had been publishing content into a wall. That failure is the reason crawler access is the first and heaviest check we run on anyone.
- We published every day since, including the bad days. The score history is automated and runs whether or not it makes us look good.
- We measured 42 well-known websites and published the full dataset. The study found an average technical SEO score of 81 and an average AI visibility score of 52, with every per-site row published so anyone can check our working. [Figure withdrawn 26 Aug 2026 pending re-measurement, why.]
- We took our own site from 0 to 100 on readiness. Crawler access, rendering, schema, canonicals and the quotable pages, every change logged and verified. It is the same sequence we run for anyone else.
How the measurement works
Two halves, scored separately, because collapsing them into one number hides the only thing worth knowing.
- Readiness is deterministic checking of things we can observe on your site: whether AI crawlers get a 200 or a 403, whether your content exists without JavaScript, whether your schema,
llms.txtand headings are in order. Direct fetches and HTML parsing, not model opinion. - Outcome is whether an answer engine names you. We generate the real buying questions in your category, put them to a live web-grounded engine, and record which businesses get named. This is the half a buyer experiences and the half no amount of on-page work fixes on its own.
A check we cannot measure is left out of the score rather than counted as a failure, because a score that punishes you for our blind spots is not a measurement.
What this method cannot tell you
Stating this plainly matters more than it costs us.
A run is one measurement, on one day, against one engine. AI answers vary between runs, between engines and as models update, and the overlap between what ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini cite is smaller than most people assume. Roughly 85% of the sources engines cite are pages we do not control and you cannot edit today. And we sell a product in this space, which is exactly why the full per-site table is published rather than summarised.
Nobody can guarantee an AI engine will name you. Anyone offering that guarantee has either misunderstood the mechanism or is counting on you not to.
We are not ShowUp Lab, and not ShowUpWithAI
Worth stating directly, because search engines are currently blending three separate entities. ShowUp Labs (plural, at showuplabs.com) does AI search visibility and answer engine optimisation. ShowUp Lab (singular) is an unrelated event operations platform based in Bengaluru. ShowUpWithAI is a third, also unrelated.
We know this is happening because we read our own Search Console: most of the impressions our site receives are for the singular name, from people looking for a different company's login page. If you arrived here looking for an events platform or a course, you want one of the others.
Who runs it
ShowUp Labs was founded by Aaron James and operates as part of Cutworks Studio, a small design and systems studio. The work is done by a small team rather than farmed out, which is the reason we cap how many audits and builds run at once.
If you work at a company we have published a report about and think something in it is wrong, tell us and we will re-run it. We would rather be corrected than be confidently wrong, and every published report carries that same offer.
Questions, answered
Who is behind ShowUp Labs?
ShowUp Labs was founded by Aaron James and operates as part of Cutworks Studio, a small design and systems studio. The work is done by a small team rather than subcontracted, which is why the number of audits and builds running at once is capped.
What is ShowUp Labs' own AI visibility score?
Our readiness score is 100 out of 100. We took it there from 0, and the full score history is re-measured and published every day at showuplabs.com/proof, so it can be checked rather than taken on trust.
Is ShowUp Labs the same as ShowUp Lab?
No. ShowUp Labs, plural, at showuplabs.com, does AI search visibility and answer engine optimisation. ShowUp Lab, singular, is an unrelated event operations platform based in Bengaluru. A third unrelated entity, ShowUpWithAI, also appears in the same searches. They are separate companies in separate industries.
Can you guarantee my business will appear in ChatGPT?
No, and a guarantee should be treated as a warning sign. Nobody controls what an AI engine says, answers vary between runs and between engines, and roughly 85% of what an engine cites is material published by other people. We can improve the odds substantially and guarantee specific work, not a specific answer.
Why do you publish your own score at all?
Because everyone selling this can measure themselves in about a minute, so a vendor who will not show you their number has told you something. Ours is published daily and can be checked at any time. It also demonstrates the exact mechanism we would be explaining to a client: on-site work took our readiness half to a perfect score and moved the outcome half not at all, which is what off-site presence is for.
